		Another Duo dedicated to the universal emotion of lust. The hardest to control and the easiest way to descent into the abyss if that is what you wish. The artistic merit of the paintings is overshadowed by the direct subject matter. The music, a soundtrack for the distressed. The whole, a union of feelings.

Emika was born on 8 January 1986 and her real name is Ame Jolly. She is an English singer of Czech origin who at present resides in Berlin. After an education in classical music she began to be interested in electronic music offering an input of high quality to the genre. The song is from her second album entitled Dva and released in 2013.

Drew Darcy

An artist from the United Kingdom, born in Birmingham, who combines his talent in visual arts with music. Of the two arts I found his paintings to be, at the moment, the most expressive. He has an excellent technical ability regarding the use of light and shadow and the rendering of drapery.

Austra and Francesca

		Today we will explore a vibrating electronic world envisioned by Austra together with the photo manipulation works of Francesca "Oedipa Drake".

Austra

Austra is a Canadian electronic music band consisting of Katie Stelmanis (vocals, keyboard), Maya Postepski and Dorian Wolf. The song is from their Olympia album released in June 18, 2013 and is entitled "Painful like". What attracted me to this song was its bombastic feel, somehow reminding me of Michael Jackson's "Bad". The vocals are clearly resembling Bjork, but to be fair this vocal style gained some amount of popularity. In case you don't understand the lyrics I've wrote them down for you at the end of the article, after the photo gallery. The song has its charm even without paying much attention to the words.

Francesca "Oedipa Drake"

Opulent and extravagant in ideas, combative in rendition and sometimes contemplative, this is how I see "Oedipa" or more exactly this is what I have chosen to see in her. An artist of the digital age, she has chosen a variety of subjects with which to express herself and so doing realized some very impressive works. What particularly caught my attention are "Traveling and Dreaming" and "Waiting at the Airport" so I have situated them at the beginning and the end of her gallery.

Late Night Post #11

A bird is singing on a tree branch, might be a sparrow, a messenger of good luck, creativity and joy. She looks at me, I see her beak, she sees my nose and flies away. A pigeon walking on my left stops to peck the ground, another pigeon comes, they meet, touch beak to beak and slowly walk away. The sky, neither cloudy nor clear, some rain drops nevertheless appear. One of these drops hit an ant, how would we be with rain drops the size of cars... I wonder.

There is a world in front of us which we can see with our senses yet few are quite that attentive. A bowl of dirt could be interesting, in fact I find it highly inspirational, many thoughts can have their origin in a simple bowl of dirt.

We tend to believe that good things must come in big boxes with red ribbons of silk. The ribbons are optional but the size is important, either in value or in mass but who can still find happiness in simple things. A bowl of dirt is a small world, a life just waiting to arrive. We should feel joy of having the chance to see the world's beauty, and little by little to renounce our feelings of vanity and greed, for we alone are our tormentors.

From time to time, look at the flowers, the birds and everything; but don't just look because there is God in everything and more so in all the beauties of the world. I guess what I'm trying to say is feel and know the price of real things.

David Preissel (visual) and Robert Schroeder (audio)

Welcome to another edition of "Duo", this time featuring the photographer Daivd Preissel and the electronic music composer Robert Schroeder.

Robert Schroeder was born in May 1955 in Aachen, Germany. At the age of 13 he got his first musical instrument, a guitar. 1970 marked his decision to put down the guitar and turn to electronics and electrical engineering and he specialized in the development and production of electronic music equipment. He was inspired at first by musicians and groups like Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze, Can, Deep Purple, Emerson Lake and Palmer. The song featured now (Invisible Danger) is from the album Brain Voyager released in 1985. The first 45 seconds will make you believe this is a very calm song, the piece slowly transforms into a heavy and dynamic composition. It was a nightmare choosing between this song and "Frozen Breath of Life", a cleaner and softer piece, just wished I could post them both. 



David Preissel (x-horizon) in a public statement from September 2011 declared that he will be "retiring from photography"... too bad because this Swiss artist has great possibilities judging from his work, my advice for him would be that art is the essence of life, breathing, touching, knowing, seeing, thinking art is the only thing that saves us, don't throw it away.

It's time for another incursion into our artistic souls, people, so close the lights and lean back on the chairs or couch or whatever, start the following song and continue down, down on the road. This time is Michael Manalo and Will Holland.


Quantic with the song "Time is the enemy". Quantic is the "stage name" of Will Holland, a musician from England that masterfully creates music by mixing electronic, jazz, funk and a couple of condiments. "Time is the enemy" is the 10th song from his 2001 "The 5th Exotic" album.

Michael Vincent Manalo is according to his own description a self-taught digital mixed-media artist, photographer and musician. In his artist statement he ends with "I will try to free people's minds and allow them to withdraw from reality and give them the opportunity to dig into a wild roller coaster of a vivid dream", congratulations Michael, you succeeded.

Annemarie Rysz (visual) and Martin Freeland (audio)

Golden.

Annemarie Rysz is a young Canadian artist that hypnotizes the viewer with simplicity, understood as minimalism. The reason I didn't say minimalism from the very beginning is because i feel that her art has something different and complex and in a way "simplicity" is also a bad choice. You need to take some time to understand the many levels present in her works, this generally depends of everyone's background. The colors are strong, expressive and well balanced, creating unique sensations and emotions also individualized with help from her choices of imagery. Rain Echoes is the fifth song from Schmoelling's White Out album. Between 1980 and 1986 he was part of Tangerine Dream. For those not familiar with this type of music we suggest starting with Jean Michel Jarre and Klaus Schulze.
